Florida Chapter of Mystery Writers of America -- Correction to March 17 Chapter Meeting

*March 17 Chapter Meeting*

We've had a change of speakers for the March 17 meeting! Updated information below.

Captain Lou Ann Williams, HPD retired

Have you wondered exactly what a police hostage negotiation team does? Would you like to know how an officer moves up the ranks from uniform patrol to police captain? Wish you could ask a cop those nitty-gritty questions about street crime? Here is your chance! Retired Police Captain Lou Ann Williams will tell war stories and field your queries in an informal question and answer session. If you missed her panel discussion at SleuthFest 2018, here is another opportunity to hear some entertaining and no-holds-barred conversation about the law enforcement field. You won’t want to miss this talk!

NOTE: Our original March speaker, Micki Browning, had a family emergency and is unable to attend; however, we will be rescheduling her presentation for later this year.

Speaker:  Lou Ann Williams is a retired Police Captain from the City of Hialeah, Florida. For HPD, she worked in various assignments including Uniform Patrol, Tactical-Crime Suppression, and Homicide/Crimes Persons.  Lou Ann grew up wanting to be an astronaut and majored in the hard sciences. She fell in love with police work instead, and went on to earn a BA in Psychology and an AA in Criminal Justice.  For the majority of her career, Lou Ann utilized her interest in psychology to develop the Hostage Negotiation Team, the Employee Assistance Program, and to provide training in those topics and other aspects of police psychology – this, in addition to her regular assignments.  Her last assignment was in the Chief’s Office handling special projects. Lou Ann has also worked as a crime analyst and in a state psychiatric facility.

An additional programming note: If you missed the Hero Dogs display at SleuthFest 2018 honoring our late friend, Jerry Healy, and his namesake service dog, here’s another chance to see it. We’ll be bringing the display to the March meeting.
