WRITER'S BLOCK BOOKSTORE PRESENT:
TIM DORSEY
CLOWNFISH BLUES

Winter Park, FL On Sunday February 5, 2017, at 3:00 PM, Writer’s Block Bookstore will host author Tim Dorsey at Writer’s Block Bookstore, 124 E. Welbourne Avenue, Winter Park. Tim will be promoting his latest novel, Clownfish Blues

A (Serge A.) Storm is brewing for a cabal of bad guys gaming the Florida state lottery in this insanely funny novel from the maestro of mayhem, Tim Dorsey

If you’re loud and proud Floridian Serge A. Storms, how do you follow up your very own remake of Easy Rider? You shoot your own “episodes” of your favorite classic television show, Route 66!

With Coleman riding shotgun, Serge is rolling down the highway of his dreams in a vintage silver convertible Corvette just like the snazzy car Martin Milner drove. It doesn’t matter that the actual Route 66 didn’t pass through Florida, for Serge discovers that a dozen episodes near the series’ end were filmed (really!) in his beloved home state. So for Serge and the always toked and stoked Coleman, the Sunshine State is all the road you need to get your kicks.

But their adventure traveling the byways of the Sunshine State’s underbelly is about to take a detour. Someone is trying to tilt the odds in the state lottery amidst a conga line of huge jackpots spinning off more chaos than any hurricane season. With this much at stake, of course every shady character wants in. Crooked bodega owners, drug cartels laundering money through the lottery, and venture capitalists are all trying to game the system—and lining up to get their cut. They’re also gambling with their lives, because when Serge and Coleman get hip to this timely (and very lucrative) trip, there’s no telling whose number is up next.

Throw in Brooke Campanella, Serge’s old flame, as well as the perpetually star-crossed Reevis, and it’s a sure bet that the ever lucky Serge will hit it big. Winning has never been this deadly—or this much fun!

OH’ FLORIDA!

Winter Park, FL On Sunday February 4, 2017, at 4:00 PM, Writer’s Block Bookstore will host author Craig Pittman at Writer’s Block Bookstore, 124 E. Welbourne Avenue, Winter Park. Craig will be promoting his latest novel, OH FLORIDA!
A fun- and fact-filled investigation into why the Sunshine State is the weirdest but also the most influential state in the Union.
* It's true...something weird pops up on the news every time I go to Florida...”

To outsiders, Florida seems baffling. It's a state where the voters went for Barack Obama twice, yet elected a Tea Party candidate as governor. It attracts 90 million visitors a year, some drawn by its impressive natural beauty, others bewitched by its man-made fantasies. Oh, Florida!, by award-winning journalist Craig Pittman, explores those contradictions and shows how they fit together to make this the most interesting state.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
CRAIG PITTMAN is an award-winning journalist & the author of three previous books. He is a native Floridian & in 2013 wrote a popular blog for Slate called "Oh, Florida! " which became the genesis for this book, & which led to his appearance on TV and radio discussing why Florida is so odd and entertaining. He lives in St. Petersburg with his wife and two children.

Write Your Way into 2017 Workshop with Patricia Charpentier

Are you motivated to get your year rolling the write way?

Join Patricia Charpentier for the first Writing Your Life workshop of the new year this Saturday, February 4th from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the community room of Panera Bread, next to Florida Hospital.

This afternoon workshop is well worth a drive, and the afternoon timing makes for easy travel to and from Orlando.

Set your 2017 writing goals during the workshop, and she'll help you plan the necessary steps to meet them. Then, get the chance to write. She will bring in a variety of prompts-mostly verbal, sometimes musical, objects, photographs, whatever I can think of-and give you five to fifteen minutes to get started writing a memory related to the prompt.

After time is called, a few volunteers read their responses to the prompt, and then move on to the next writing assignment.

What's great about this type of workshop is that it helps you come up with topics you might not have otherwise thought to write about, and you leave with the beginnings of five to ten stories you can finish at home.

The fee for Write Your Way into 2017 is $55 and includes lunch, beverages, instruction, fun, and camaraderie with others who want to write.

Panera Bread is located at 2415 N. Orange Avenue in Orlando, on the corner of Orange Avenue and Rollins Street east next to Florida Hospital. Park in the garage on Rollins Street next to Panera's and bring in your ticket. The manager will validate the ticket, providing you with free parking.

Take advantage of this opportunity to jumpstart your writing. There are only a few spaces left, so register today.
