Brevard Renaissance Fair Opening Weekend: Year Three of Wickham Park’s Only Medieval Festival

The Medieval world comes to Brevard County as the Brevard Renaissance Fair gears up for the third annual fair “Season of the Hood” boasting food, fun, and family entertainment. Located at the Wickham Park Amphitheater, Opening Weekend begins January 20-21 with an encore on January 27-28, and February 2-4, 2018. With more than 30 entertainment acts on 7 stages and dozens of shops, enjoy a cast of colorfully costumed, exotic, and intriguing characters featuring Robin Hood and his Merry Men (and Women).

Catch a glimpse of times past and lose yourself in the Old World of Medieval Europe. Cheer your champion knight at the Joust Arena. Feast like a King on classic Ren Fair foods, such as juicy turkey legs, and quench your thirst with mead, cider, beer, and soft drinks fit for royalty. Come aboard with C. Weed and the rest of the Renegades as we explore from pub to pub to pub singing songs, playing games, and sharing a pint at each pub including the adult only pub. Delight in the antics of street performers. Come hear musicians play authentic period instruments. Watch demonstrations of time-honored arts and skills. Discover an enchanted place where fairy tales become flesh.

“It is our goal to promote and support arts, education, and imagination for the citizens of Brevard County,” shares Anthony DeRivi, the fair’s Executive Producer. “Prepare to step back in time to a simpler way of life and the festival atmosphere of a charming Olde World Faire.”

With nationally renowned entertainment acts, families and die-hard fans will experience period music, bards, and singalong with featured acts to include:
The Craic Show, a high energy blend of Medieval Music
Stary Olsa, known to recreate modern music with Medieval instruments and undertones
Rambling Sailors, weaving comedy with songs of the sea in salty harmonies
The Limey Birds, an acapella trio with engaging banter between songs
Wolgemut, historical music, such as bagpipes, shawms, and drums

This year, the fair will also be open for one special night on January 27th, from 7pm – 10pm (additional ticket required) for a main stage performance by Stary Olsa and opening acts Aaron Bonk and Jessica Holanda. The night will include group singing, spontaneous dancing, and ample drinking.

For the kids, the Brevard Renaissance Fair offers pirates and knights, games of chance, puppets, unicorns, and mermaids. Let your children be amazed by the jousters and jugglers, engage with pieces in the human chessboard, and find trinkets to take home that capture their memories forever. Weekend and Season passes available, along with our featured Education Day on February 2nd, 2018, where children pay just $5 and adults are $2 (limited acts and vendors; not a full show).

Following the Strandline by Linda L Zern -- The Sequel to Beyond the Strandline is now AVAILABLE

BOOK BLURB:  Seven years after solar flares destroy the power grid, seventeen-year-old Tessla Lane is living in a dangerous world. The S-Line Ranch isn’t the safe, isolated place it once was, and Tessla’s family and friends can no longer avoid the brutality raging beyond their borders.

Filled with wildfires, slavers, and violent gangs, the Florida peninsula has become a lawless land of thieves and murderers. But along with new enemies come new opportunities. Orphaned children called “doe kids” wander the forest around the ranch, and the Marketplace Mall has been fortified by a collection of hardened women fighters, including Richmond Parrish’s sisters. The new world is more complicated than ever, and the ranch family’s survival hangs by a thread. With her grandfather gone, teenaged Tessla bears the burden of defending the ranch—and preparing her family for the fight of their lives.

About the Author
“Humor speaks to the intellect and literature speaks to the heart, so said one of my writing teachers. I try to write both.” (Linda L. Zern, Author and Word Monger)
Linda L. Zern lives in Central Florida. As a child and raised on sunshine and bug spray, she read every cereal box and every book she could get her hands on. She now spins her own stories spun from Florida mists and liquid sunshine.

Writing her way through the genre list, and starting with an illustrated inspirational book, The Long-Promised Song, Ms. Zern's latest novel is a young adult, realistic, dystopian adventure set in rural Florida called FOLLOWING THE STRANDLINE, BOOK II IN THE STRANDLINE SERIES.

Inspired by the classic
Alas Babylon by Pat Frank, the author revisits the collapse of civilization and the power grid in this romantic action/adventure/thriller.

Book II in the Strandline Series,
FOLLOWING THE STRANDLINE, continues the story of Tessla Lane and her sisters Ally and ZeeZee, along with their handsome, troubled tenant Richmond Parrish.

Survivors of collapse, war, and chaos, members of the S-Line Ranch must reach out to the violent, wounded “Amazon” women of the Oviedo Marketplace Mall. They are warriors building a fortress. Warriors planning to defend against whatever their enemies have planned:  wildfire, invasion, and return to brutal slavery.

Can Tessla convince her family to join forces with the hardened women of the Marketplace Fortress? Can she convince herself?

About the book - A consistently exciting and never predictable series." -Associated Press
It begins as a manhunt for Grace Ozmian, the missing daughter of a wealthy tech billionaire. At first, the NYPD assumes Grace, beautiful, reckless, and a regular feature of the local tabloids, has simply sped off on another wild adventure. But the case becomes something altogether different when the young woman's body is discovered in an abandoned warehouse in Queens, the head nowhere to be found.
Lieutenant CDS Vincent D'Agosta quickly takes the lead. He knows his investigation will attract fierce scrutiny, so D'Agosta is delighted when FBI Special Agent A.X.L. Pendergast shows up at the crime scene also assigned to the case. "I feel rather like Brer Rabbit being thrown into the briar patch," Pendergast tells D'Agosta, "because I have found you here, in charge. Just like when we first met, back at the Museum of Natural History."
D'Agosta hopes the case will give Pendergast an opportunity to demonstrate his considerable abilities back in the city he has made home. But neither Pendergast nor D'Agosta are prepared for what lies ahead. It quickly becomes clear that a diabolical presence is haunting the greater metropolitan area, and Grace Ozmian was only the first of many victims to be murdered...and decapitated. Worse still, there's something unique to the city itself that has attracted its evil eye of the killer--or killers.
As mass hysteria sets in, Pendergast and D'Agosta find themselves in the crosshairs of an opponent who has threatened the very lifeblood of the city. It will take all of Pendergast's skill to unmask this most dangerous foe--let alone survive to tell the tale.

About the authors: The thrillers of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child "stand head and shoulders above their rivals" (Publishers Weekly). Preston and Child's Relic and The Cabinet of Curiosities were chosen by readers in a National Public Radio poll as being among the one hundred greatest thrillers ever written, and Relic was made into a number-one box office hit movie. They are coauthors of the famed Pendergast series and their recent novels include Fever Dream, Cold Vengeance, Two Graves, and Gideon's Corpse. In addition to his novels, Preston writes about archaeology for the New Yorker and Smithsonian magazines. Lincoln Child is a former book editor who has published five novels of his own, including the huge bestseller Deep Storm.
Readers can sign up for The Pendergast File, a monthly "strangely entertaining note" from the authors, at their website, www.PrestonChild.com. The authors welcome visitors to their alarmingly active Facebook page, where they post regularly.

Florida Master Photographer’s 22,264 Mile, 50 state, 90 day Labor of Love Inspires Extraordinary Book, Dance Across the USA: Dance Across the USA slated for release on December 9, 2017

NASHVILLE, Tennessee – Florida Master Photographer Jonathan Givens will celebrate the release of Dance Across the USA in December.  An extraordinary photo book featuring dancers across the country celebrating America’s beauty and diversity, Dance Across the USA will be available where fine books are sold on December 9, 2017.

In the summer of 2016, Givens embarked on an epic journey spanning 50 states in 90 days with the sole purpose of photographing dancers in national parks and beloved and well-known settings in each state.  After all, the possibilities for splendid settings abounded—a dancer on top of an active volcano, in the middle of the ocean, on a sand dune in Death Valley, in a glacier-fed lake—and Givens, undeterred by the Herculean task, jumped in feet first.   During that 90-day journey, Givens racked up some unimaginable statistics:  22,264 miles driven; 22,160 photographs created; 163 dancers photographed; 56 locations; 50 states; and 1 Mighty Buford, the van that served as the vehicle—literally and figuratively—for Givens’s odyssey.

The magnificent result is Dance Across the USA, a brilliant, coffee table style book featuring images from the journey.  Part epic photo diary, part love letter to America, part celebration of dance, Dance Across the USA is completely awe-inspiring.  Brimming with gorgeous, full color photographs, Dance Across the USA is filled with breathtaking images, swoon-worthy settings, and amazing subjects.

A passion project born of Givens’s desire to showcase the fabric of America, shine a spotlight on the importance of dance, and highlight the diversity that exists in both the physical landscape and in the dancers who make America their home, Dance Across the USA is an extraordinary—and extraordinarily real—book.  Resplendent with real photographs of real dancers in real locations—the skies are real, the landscape is real, even the dirty feet are real— the photos within this incredible book involve no digital compositing, no trampolines, no wires or strings attached. Real dancers. Real photos. Real settings.

A book that is awe-inspiring in its sheer beauty and magnitude, Dance Across the USA features a wide range of dancers—from ages 5 to 61, professionals and amateurs, students and teachers, male and female, boys and girls, cat lovers and dog lovers. Moreover, Dance Across the USA provides an exquisite, eye-opening look at America—from sandy Florida beaches to the rugged Washington coast, from the glaciers of Alaska to Death Valley in California and all points in between.

A book that celebrates diversity, beauty, dance, self-expression, America’s majesty and America’s people, Dance Across the USA is, at its heart, a celebration. Vivid, buoyant, exquisite, and extraordinary, Dance Across the USA is an appropriately phenomenal by-product of a phenomenal journey.

Dance Across the USA will be published in a trade paper edition (ISBN: 9780692953709, 306 pages) in December.
