OCTOBER EVENT HONORS LOCAL AUTHOR
 
          Author/Poet Lenny Schneir, who passed away recently, will be honored at an open mic event at the home offices of Creative Happiness Institute. Mr. Schneir was on the CHI advisory board in addition to being an active member of Live Poets Society. His family has donated many of his possessions, including a number of paintings he collected, to be sold for the benefit of the arts.
          Mr. Schneir was the author of two successfully published books: Gambling Collectibles, A Sure Winner (Schiffer Publishing) and Merlin Stone Remembered (Llewellyn Worldwide), which won a gold medal in 2014 from the Florida Book Awards as the best non-fiction book by a Florida author.
          The event will be held on Saturday, October 7 (rain date, Sunday, Oct. 8) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The open mic runs from 1 to 2:30. All styles of music and poetry are welcome.
          Items for sale include books, bric-a-brac, unique clothing, treasures. CHI, a non-profit, charitable organization, has created a Lenny Schneir Fund that will serve the greater community.
