NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Veteran public school teacher and Florida resident Diane Weiner has authored a new schoolhouse mystery, Murder is Chartered. Published by Cozy Cat Press, Murder is Chartered is available in trade paper (ISBN: 978-1946063120, 180 pages, $14.95) and eBook ($2.99) editions.
Longtime teacher Diane Weiner delivers a spellbinding tale in her latest novel, Murder is Chartered. A smart, suspenseful new schoolhouse mystery featuring retired schoolteacher protagonist Susan Wiles, Murder is Chartered is set against the backdrop of bucolic Westbrook, New York.
About Murder is Chartered: Driving home from an open house at Westbrook’s new charter school, Susan
Wiles nearly falls asleep at the wheel. It’s not surprising Susan is
exhausted: wanting to stay productive in retirement, Susan has been
devoting countless volunteer hours to helping her friend Theresa with
her fourth grade class at the new charter school. But while driving on
that winding mountain road late at night, Susan gets the shock of her
life when something hits her Prius from out of nowhere. To her horror,
Susan discovers a dead woman lying in the road. Worse still, Susan soon
realizes that the lifeless body is Melissa Chadwick, her school’s
assistant principal. Panicked and thinking she killed an innocent
pedestrian, Susan calls her detective daughter Lynnette. But when
Lynette arrives at the scene, she senses something isn't right. Was this
an accident, a suicide, or a murder? Was Melissa killed by a coworker?
Someone with a grudge against her husband as a result of his recently
relocated business? Or could it have been someone way too close to
home? With few answers but no shortage of questions, Susan Wiles is
forced to take matters into her own capable hands. Feeling responsible
for the unexplained death, Susan puts on her sleuthing cap. She’s
determined to find answers, but as she charts a dangerous path, this
retired teacher may learn a painful and shocking lesson about secrets
threatening the safety of her beloved town. Will she find the truth—or
will tragedy strike again in this once-cozy town?
Charming, imaginative, and wildly entertaining, Murder is Chartered brims with suspense. Cleverly plotted and filled with colorful characters, Murder is Chartered is
delightful. With its lovable retired-teacher-turned-amateur-sleuth
protagonist, captivating storyline, and terrific twists and turns, Murder is Chartered is much more than a mystery. Informed by Weiner’s three plus decades as an educator, Murder is Chartered
pays tribute to teachers, and honors the foster and adoptive parents
who work tirelessly to make a difference in a child’s life. A standout
new cozy from a stellar storyteller, Murder is Chartered is an outstanding new entry in the Susan Wiles Schoolhouse Mystery Series.
