Writer’s Block Bookstore
124 E. Welbourne Avenue, Winter Park, Florida

Winter Park, FL On Wednesday, March 29th, Writer’s Block Bookstore will host author Randy Wayne White at the First Congregational Church in Winter Park, Florida. Randy Wayne White will be promoting his latest novel Mangrove Lightning.

New York Times Bestselling Author Randy Wayne White returns in Mangrove Lightning, the 24th electrifying novel in the series starring marine biologist (and undercover black-ops agent) Marion “Doc” Ford and his trusty, Master of Zen sidekick, the Right Reverend Tomlinson. The two laidback heroes are going to need all of their considerable resources to take on their latest challenge, which involves a life-threatening scandal for a lesser member of the British parliament, lots of venomous aquatic creatures and a century-old family curse rearing its fatal head.

Doc Ford has been involved in many strange cases. This may be one of the strangest. Tootsie Barlow is a legend in the fishing-guide community, an old salt who is revered across the coast. It turns out he has some secrets of his own, which include a family member’s involvement in the murder of a police deputy and his wife and children back in 1925. That murder has become something of an urban legend today, but Tootsie’s ancestor’s role in the crime is all too real, and Tootsie has proof. Even worse, he has some suspicions that the crime is haunting his family today. Doc Ford has never believed in curses—but he does believe in murder. He agrees to look into it, not knowing that this nearly century-old murder case is also connected to his ex-girlfriend Hannah Smith, making this investigation as personal as it is deadly.

Ford doesn't believe in curses, but as he and his friend Tomlinson begin to investigate, following the trail of the attacks from Key Largo to Tallahassee, they, too, suffer a series of near-fatal mishaps. Is it really a curse? Or just a crime spree? The answer lies in solving a near-hundred-year-old murder...and probing the mind of a madman.

Since leaving home at age 16, and skipping college in the process, New York Times best-selling author Randy Wayne White has been a farm hand, a brass and iron foundry worker, a telephone lineman, and, for thirteen years, a full-time fishing guide at Tarpon Bay Marina on Florida’s Sanibel Island.  He has been stabbed, “shot at with intent,” and was in a hotel that got blown up by Shining Path Anarchists in Peru.  As a columnist for Outside magazine he has covered the America’s Cup races in Australia, gone dog sledding in Alaska, searched for wild orangutans on Borneo, brought back refugees from Cuba, been diving in the infamous Bad Blue Hole lake on the desolate Cat Island in the Bahamas, and even participated in a mission to steal back General Manuel Noriega’s bar stools.
