Florida Authors Promote Literacy and Community Involvement in a Family-Friendly Event

Find the perfect gift at the Christmas Book-Tacular for every reader on your list

Authors in the Park returns for the Fifth Annual Christmas Book-tacular on Saturday, December 10th, 2016, at the Osprey Lodge located at 1761 Nightingale Lane, Tavares, Florida in Lake County. Over twenty local and independent authors are participating in the fifth anniversary of this popular event, made special by the appearance of two best-selling, award-winning authors.

Dan Walsh (The Unfinished Gift) and Jaimie Engle (Clifton Chase and the Arrow of Light) will be keynote speakers at a private function before the event opens to the public at 1:00 PM.

Mr. Walsh is the bestselling author of 17 novels including The Unfinished Gift, The Discovery and When Night Comes. He has won 3 Carol Awards (finalist 6 times), 3 Selah Awards and 3 of his books have been finalists for RT Review’s Inspirational Book of the Year. A member of American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) and Word Weavers International, Dan writes fulltime in the Daytona Beach area.

Jaime Engle hails from Brevard County, Florida. She pens cutting-edge storytelling for fans of the supernatural and has published 6 novels under her brand JME Books. Her anti-bullying children’s book Clifton Chase and the Arrow of Light was awarded a BRAG Medallion in 2015 and listed as a Top 10 Book in 2014 by Kid Lit Reviews. The Dredge won honorable mentions in the Writers of the Future Award and Dreadlands: Wolf Moon is up for a Nebula, Tiptree, and Florida Sunshine State Award for 2016. She is an active speaker in schools across the state.

“Meeting fans is the best part of my job,” shared Engle. “Having someone tell me that their child had never read an entire book before reading Clifton Chase is the greatest compliment I could ever receive.”

The book signing event will be open to the public from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the Grand Foyer of the Osprey Lodge Assisted Living and Memory Care facility, which is opening their doors to the public for this special event. There will be a raffle drawing of multiple gift baskets. Guests will receive one entry with every $10 they spend with any participating author.

“We are excited to have the authors here and want Osprey Lodge to be a real part of the community,” said Anita Fernandez, Executive Director of Osprey Lodge Assisted Living & Memory Care. The Lodge will be decorated for Christmas. Osprey Lodge has previously hosted other art-related events.

The Authors in the Park events continue to grow each year. This special fifth anniversary will mark the largest gathering of authors of any of their previous events. The event attracts a variety of award-winning and best-selling authors in addition to the special guests, such as Steve Boone, former band member of The Lovin’ Spoonful. Book genres will range from children’s picture books to romance to non-fiction.

“Authors of almost every genre will be coming from all across Florida,” said Mark Miller, creator of Authors in the Park. “The original vision was to bring together a group of authors that wanted to promote literacy and community involvement. Sure, we want to sell books, but we also want to give back.”

All authors will be available for photo ops, autographs and will answer questions about their books and other writing topics. The event is free to attend and open to the public. Books and other gift ideas will be available for purchase.

Miller concluded, “It is an opportunity for a reader to meet an author they might not have known about otherwise.”
