From Dragons to Ferine: Award-Winning Children’s Book Author Jaimie Engle’s Latest Novel is ruled by the Wolf Moon

Local children’s book author, Jaimie Engle, recently captivated children across the nation with a whimsical tale laden with mermaids and dragons, but her latest YA story has a Nordic chill that not only engrosses young readers, but also stretches the fantasy genre to incorporate Viking lore and vicious ferines.

Engle’s second novel Dreadlands: Wolf Moon was released on April 22 and quickly racked up raving reviews. Dreadlands: Wolf Moon, tells a haunting Nordic tale about a boy named Arud who fervently fights to overcome a century-old prophecy that is deeply rooted in his own family’s shadowy legacy. Shape-shifting wolves that are ruled by the moon cycle stalk each chapter of this coming-of-age novel that is sure to turn middle grade children into ferocious readers.
Kirkus Reviews said: “Dreadlands weaves Viking lore, animalistic shape-shifting (wolves), and coming-of-age adventure into a fantasy epic.”

Engle’s previous work, her middle grade novel, Clifton Chase and the Arrow of Light introduced children to a fantasy world that they quickly fell in love with. The book went on to win a Brag Medallion in 2015 and along the way, garnered media attention for its strong anti-bullying message, which resonates with childre.

In addition to appearing at local events as part of the launch of Dreadlands: Wolf Moon, Engle is finalizing edits on her third novel, a bittersweet coming-of-age tale called Metal Mouth that is perfectly executed and rife with witty realism that YA readers will undoubtedly connect with and likely read over and over again.
