March 19, 2016: Mystery Writers of America, Florida Chapter, Luncheon

Guest Speaker:       Brad Markowitz
                                 How to See Your Book to the World of Movies and TV

What does it take to get "into a room"? What are today's producers looking for? What involved in creating a pitch? What's a logline and why should you care? As a veteran of writing for both television and movies, Brad knows Hollywood. Come ready to have your questions answered.

Brad Markowitz is a Los Angeles-based writer/producer and consultant with vast experience in all forms of broadcast and film communication, from television news to network scripted drama series to reality television and multi platform. His most recent credits include writing a one hour TV series pilot for SyFy Network and being Executive producer and show runner of the hit TV series “Lost Girl” which currently airs on SyFy in the US and Showcase Network in Canada. He is currently writing content for the social media platform and is doing adjunct teaching for the School of Communications at Concordia University in Austin, Texas. 

Brad was recently recognized by the Writers Guild of America for his contribution to the long running series “Law and Order” as one of the 100 best written shows in the history of television. Other credits include story editing and writing for Nash Entertainment’s “Top Twenty” reality franchise on Tru TV Network, and as writer/consultant for Xenophile Entertainment’s international multi-media alternate reality game project “Love Letters From The Future,” sponsored by Greenpeace International. 

Brad’s scripted drama career includes Writer, Executive Producer and Co-Exec Producer credits on such successful TV series as “The Outer Limits,” “Law And Order” and “Life Goes On.” He has two network TV “Created By” series credits and developed for television a successful Fox Network Saturday morning kids series, “Los Luchadores.” Brad also was Executive Producer for Sony International’s telenovela series, “Talisman of Love,” filmed on location in Moscow, Russia. 

In the journalism world, Brad served as a writer and producer for KCBS-TV, Channel 2 News in Los Angeles as well as Head Writer for the CBS News prime time series “Saturday Night With Connie Chung.” He also wrote and produced a KCET network documentary, “Saturn and Beyond.” 

In addition to writing and producing, Brad is a member of the Directors Guild of America, and has directed and produced for entertainment magazine shows such as “2 On The Town,” “Hollywood Close-Up” and “Eye On LA.” He has been Creative Consultant for a major BBC mini series and has been the on set supervisor for projects in Moscow, Amsterdam, Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal.

Cost:  $25 for MWA members; $30 for non-members.  Please note that those who do not reserve and prepay will pay $5 extra at the door, and be seated only if space is available.
