Author’s Book Launch to Raise Money for Special Needs Facility

Debbie Waldorf Johnson to donate half of sales to Promise in Brevard

Melbourne, FL, March 20, 2015: "Our ultimate goal is to provide a much needed housing choice for our cherished family members with special needs."—http://www.promiseinbrevard.com.
Author-Illustrator Debbie Johnson is excited to share the release of her second picture book If Bugs Were My Friends. The launch party will be on April 11th, 2015 from 10:30am-12:30pm at Promise Treasures Thrift Shoppe in the Metro West Shopping Center, located on the corner of Wickham and 1-92 behind Walgreens at 3040 West New Haven Avenue, West Melbourne, FL  32904. Come meet the author-illustrator for a book signing, story times at 11:00am and noon, giveaways, and door prizes. Children in grades preK to 2nd grade are welcome.

“I have loved creating visual stories as a painter and illustrator for as long as I can remember,” shared Johnson, who dedicated the book to her grandson, Logan, a bug enthusiast since birth. “I wanted to create something special for my grandchildren, and that was the beginning of my children’s picture books.”

Johnson works with authors to create cover art and illustrations for their books. Saunnielee’s Umbrella on the Floor and Jaimie M. Engle’s Clifton Chase and the Arrow of Light both utilized cover art by Johnson, although Engle incorporated chapter illustrations, coloring pages, and puzzles for kids as well.

“Debbie has created another adorable children’s book to her credit,” said Mary Jo Mirvichin, Early Childhood Instructor. “Her illustrations are a sweet example of her talent, and the story with its rhyme is delightful.”

Half of the proceeds from the release party will go directly to Promise in Brevard, which is building a brand new facility in West Melbourne, Florida.

About the Book:

Most people experienced an imaginary friend in their childhood. In this picture book a young boy uses his imagination to have a rollicking good time with his imaginary friends, who just happen to be bugs. Imagination is very important to see beyond what we know of the world and to strengthen creative skills. Kids will get a chuckle out of this fun story.
