The Dan Pels Show, Where the Literati Lounge

The successful Parisian-style cabaret evenings, the Dan Pels Show, will continue on Wednesday, March 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Wine-Me on Beach Street. “There is nothing wrong with calling Daytona Beach a racing town,” says Pels, “but there is also a lot to do for the literary crowd.”

Carol Thomas of Palm Coast, and John McKernan from New Smyrna, will be the featured performers, together with Pels, who greets his followers and reads his own creative pieces in both French and English. Jazz singer, Lorale, will provide songs and music for those who wish to dance.

Dr. Thomas is author of five well-received volumes of poetry, in addition to her being a Florida Book Award Gold Medal winner as a co-author of a non-fiction critical biography. John McKernan, author of the poetry collection Resurrection of Dust, has had poems published in The New Yorker, The Paris Review and Atlantic Review.

“Our audience continues to grow,” Pels explains, “probably because Daytona is actually a very cultured town—full of high-powered writers not just race cars. The authors who appear in my show are the literary equivalent of Sprint Cup winners.”
The evening, a Creative Happiness Institute presentation, is open to the public, free. Wine-Me, which is located at 204 South Beach Street, Daytona Beach, offers a wide selection of wines from $4 a glass and up.  For more information about the Dan Pels Poetry Show, call him at 386-846-7966.
