This
first annual award honors Patrick D. Smith, beloved Florida author and friend
of the Foundation. We are thrilled to be
honoring Patrick D. Smith. It is the desire of the Foundation to not only
honor Patrick Smith, but also provide the opportunity for local Brevard authors
to showcase their work and win a sizeable award for their efforts. All entries will be judged by local academic
leaders and professors. The winning work
will be awarded a cash prize of $1500 at an event in their honor. The Patrick D. Smith Literary Award is open
to current, full-time Brevard residents.
About the Brevard
Library Foundation: Founded in 2000, the Foundation’s mission is to
support the Brevard County Library System by providing financial resources to
enrich and accelerate innovation within the library experience for the shared
benefit of the community. We believe
that libraries are an investment in the future of Brevard County. To date, we have provided thousands of
children’s books as replacements for those lost, misplaced or over-loved;
funded the Negroni-Hendrick Mobile Library which serves hundreds of children
and elderly shut-ins each month; as well as created and opened the only café of
its kind within a library facility.
The Brevard Library Foundation is located in the
former S.F. “Gator” Travis Home at 219 Indian River Drive in front/east of the
Central Brevard Library and Reference Center.
Lovingly referred to as the RiverHouse, its renovation was a cooperative
effort among not for profits in our county. It is also the home of Literacy for
Adults in Brevard, The Cape Canaveral Lighthouse office and the Space Coast
Symphony Orchestra.
We are usually available between 10:00am – 3:00pm,
Monday thru Friday on a part-time basis.
