FLAGLER BEACH, FL – Ocean Books & Art, Flagler Beach’s oceanfront bookstore and art gallery, is offering four watercolor demonstrations and four six-hour watercolor workshops by Harry Thompson and Jill Previti of Kennebunkport, Maine. All events will be at 200 S. Oceanshore Blvd. (A1A), across from the Flagler Beach Pier.
The watercolor demonstrations are on January 8th, February 12th, March 12th, and April 9th. All sessions are free and will start at 6:00 pm. Reservations are suggested and may be made by calling 386-693-4882 or stopping at the gallery.
At the demonstrations, Thompson and Previti will give a two-hour hands-on explanation of how to create watercolor art. Starting with a blank canvas, watercolors and brushes, they will take attendees through a step by step process that leads to a painting one can be proud to display or give as a gift.
The watercolor workshops will be from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on January 19th, February 16th, March 23rd, and April 27th. Lunch breaks will be held at the Funky Pelican restaurant across the street from Ocean Books & Art. Thompson and Previti will join the students at lunch to continue the discussion and learning. Each workshop is $100 per person and reservations are required. Meals are not included in the workshop fee.
Harry Thompson, a graduate of the Ringling College of Art & Design in Sarasota, and Jill Previti, a self-taught artist, own popular art galleries in Kennebunkport, Maine. Frank Gromling, owner of Ocean Books & Art, met the artists in January 2013 when they visited his business and was impressed with their artistic talent and gallery experience. The trio enjoyed working together to present three successful workshops last year and agreed to come together again in 2014.
Gromling and his wife, Bibi, traveled to Kennebunkport in July to visit Thompson and Previti to learn more about operating an art gallery. The time was well spent because Ocean Books & Art subsequently has made several significant changes in its artistic offerings, marketing, and management. With 17 local and national artists offering quality art in acrylic, oil, pastel, tempera, sculpture, scratch board, and photography, the gallery has become recognized as an attractive addition to downtown Flagler Beach.
