Very Washington DC: A Celebration of the History and Culture of America's Capital City by Diana Hollingsworth Gessler

As a writer and artist, I love Diana Hollingsworth Gessler's books. She delicately designs each book to be functional as well as beautiful to look at. As a guidebook Very Washington DC is packed with information about Capitol Hill, the many museums and memorials, Georgetown and surrounding neighborhoods, as well as Alexandria and Mount Vernon.

What makes this book (and all her guidebooks) special are her sketches that illustrate every page. It's a delight to see the pictures of the events or places that she describes. She has even included hand-drawn maps of each area so you won't get lost.

Diana Hollingsworth Gessler has not only captured the essence of Washington DC in this book, but its history and beauty as well. This is a great book to take along on a trip or to give as a gift to someone you know will be visiting the nation's capitol in the near future.

And it's a wonderful resource if you are preparing for a trip. She has included a wonderful appendix with addresses and websites to help you prepare.

Take a look. You won't be disappointed.

About the Author

Diana Hollingsworth Gessler is a resident of Florida but can often be found elsewhere pursuing her passion of traveling and art.

She says of her art:

My love of color comes from my grandmother and aunt who both adored peach. The strong design sense is from my training as a graphic designer, and I traveled a lot as a child.

Now, the twin passions of color and travel have come together in my painting & books. By capturing the “happy colors” of the many places we visit, the paintings always have a sense of joy about them.
