Message from Florida Book Awards!

Did you have a Florida author who published a book in 2010? You may want to consider submitting it to the Florida Book Awards!

Since we began in 2006, we here at the Florida Book Awards have been committed to celebrating the amazing Florida literary community that sustains us. We have grown to the most comprehensive state book awards competition in the country, and the only one with a Spanish language category.

We partner with several statewide organizations including the Florida Humanities Council, the State Libraries and Archives of Florida, and the Florida Literary Arts Council (to name a few!) to honor the best books written by Florida authors each year. To be considered, the author must be from Florida, except for our Florida Non-Fiction category, for which the author may live anywhere but the subject matter of the book should primarily focus on Florida.

In early March, medals will be announced in each of the eight categories. Gold Medal Award winners will be acknowledged at the Historic and Cultural Awards Ceremony sponsored by the State of Florida's Division of Cultural Affairs at the R.A. Gray Building in Tallahassee. All FBA medalists will be acknowledged at a banquet hosted by the Florida Library Association at its annual conference on May 5th in Orlando.

Visit our website at for more information about each category and the submission process.

Our deadline for the 2010 competition is quickly approaching! All entries must be received no later than 5pm on Monday, January 3, 2011.

Check out our blog at for announcements and news about the Florida Book Awards. Also coming soon will be author interviews, reviews, and tons of other fun features! We are also on facebook and twitter (FLBookAwards)

Let us know if you have any questions, and we look forward to receiving your submissions!
