Grandma's Pocket Pals( C)2009 by Linda Valentino

Magical beings and a two-headed dinosaur are just a couple of exciting finds that six-year old Gavin and his sister, Alexa, discover over summer vacation. While exploring their grandparent’s home, they find a number of pillows that have pockets sewn on them.

Grandma Sarah tells them that she created Pocket Pillows to put notes that she and her husband would write to each other. The children soon learn that these pillows are used for something else. They are homes for the Pocket Pals – magical beings that help those who need help with their every day trials and tribulations.

When dinosaur bones are discovered at Grandma Sarah's and Grandpa Peter’s yard, Gavin is anxious to see them, but he reluctantly waits until the weekend. But later that night, a Pocket Pal fills his head with wild imaginative dreams.

With the Pocket Pals around, Gavin and Alexa don’t feel alone anymore. They have a fabulous summer filled with parties, a birthday celebration, a unique toy, dinosaur bones, and a new baby sister! There are plenty of surprises and delightful characters for the reader to enjoy.

Pocket Pals is a story about love. Something everyone wants and needs. A chance to be loved and loved in returned. Placing notes in a pillow pocket is one way that shows a person that someone loves them. This story also teaches children that each person is special and deserves a chance at happiness. Perhaps, someday, when you’re in need of a friend, a Pocket Pal will be there to help you.

I gave my two grandaughters this book. I was lucky enough to stay a few days and read the book to them. The five year old was so intriged and I myself could hardly wait for the next page. There is much detail in this book and I didn't have to fill in a lot of answers that usually come my way while reading to them. Thank you Linda and keep up the good work! Debi Hunter
