Book Festival Partners with Florida State College at Jacksonville for Writers’ Workshop

The Amelia Island Book Festival and Florida State College at Jacksonville Writers’ Workshop is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 12, 2010 at the Betty Cook Center, Yulee. Tickets are now available for the workshop, which includes writer sessions, hands-on workshops, and a panel discussion on “Putting the South in Southern Writing.”

Authors headlining the workshop sessions include: Rick Bragg, Sonny Brewer, Cassandra King, Janis Owens and Jeff Shaara, as well as many more authors, local writers, professors and industry professionals.

The cost for the workshop and lunch is $90 for sign up by Dec. 15. After this date, the cost increases to $95. Florida State College at Jacksonville and area high school students are free but they must pre-register.

Writers’ Workshop Schedule
8 a.m. — Coffee and registration
9 a.m. — Workshops begin
Two sessions in the morning offer a variety of hands-on workshops.

Lunch — Keynote speakers:
Sonny Brewer, Poet of Tolstoy Park
Rick Bragg, Pulitzer Prize winning author of All Over But the Shoutin’

Two sessions are scheduled for after lunch, offering a wide variety of presenters and topics.

3 p.m. — Panel — Best-Selling Authors: Putting the South in Southern Writing,
Cassandra King, Janis Owens, Sonny Brewer and Rick Bragg

The festival is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that promotes literacy among children and adults by showing that reading is fun and worthwhile and inspiring the appreciation of books.
