Adjective Arrest

If you find you're using too many adjectives, check to see if your nouns are specific enough.

For example... The noun building is less specific than house, factory, cabin, shed, shop, chalet, hut, cottage, etc.

If you use the word building instead of one of the more specific choices, you have to apply more adjectives to draw the pictures with your words.

Welcome to Tip of the Day

I'm Lou Belcher. I'm a freelance writer, editor and photographer. Frequently, I'm asked questions about writing and publishing. In Tip of the Day, I'll share some of what I've learned over the years. I intend to fill this blog with valuable tips for writers of all levels. Fiction writers; non-fiction writers; writers of short stories, novels, textbooks, magazine articles, and writers for the web will find useful information here to help them improve and enjoy their writing.

First Tip: Become a Tip of the Day regular... and don't be afraid to comment.
